The Salt Lake City Public Library’s Chapman Branch serves a unique mix of cultures and ethnicities. This children’s room was designed to inspire a love of curiosity for the natural world, and the diverse cultures that populate it. It features a fish water slide, brightly colored biophilic forms, an animal alphabet, and a wall sized world map showing flora, fauna, and how to say hello in different parts of the world. The room needed to maintain elements of The City Library brand through color, illustration style, and a commitment to biophilia, or mimicking nature. Paint and Flor carpet systems were also added to create a complete transformational experience. Elements were placed strategically to be at all children’s eye levels, and even has hidden bugs underneath shelves that only crawling babies can enjoy.
